What is an eternity ring?

An eternity ring is a band set with a continuous line of diamonds or gemstones, symbolising unending love or commitment. Full eternity rings have stones all the way around the band; half eternity rings have stones across the front half only - more practical for daily wear and often preferred as wedding or anniversary bands.

When should I give an eternity ring?

Traditionally given to mark significant milestones - a wedding anniversary (often the 10th, 25th, or 50th), the birth of a child, or a meaningful anniversary within a long relationship. Some couples choose eternity bands as wedding rings instead of plain bands, and many men commission them for their wives as surprise gifts. There is no wrong time.

What does an eternity ring cost?

Bespoke eternity rings at Hatton Garden Bespoke Jewellery start from around £1,800 for a half-eternity in 18ct gold with 0.50ct total diamond weight. Most commissions fall in the £2,500 to £6,000 range depending on diamond total carat, quality grades, metal (platinum runs approximately 30 percent higher than white gold), and setting style. Full eternity rings typically cost roughly double a half eternity.

Can eternity rings be resized?

Half eternity rings resize easily because the back of the band is plain metal. Full eternity rings cannot be resized in the traditional way because stones cover the entire shank. For full eternities we recommend ordering the exact final size and building in a 0.25 size tolerance. If resizing becomes necessary, we can rebuild the shank with matching stones - ask at consultation.

What diamond shape works best for eternity rings?

Round brilliants and princess cuts are the most popular for their sparkle and how cleanly they sit side-by-side. Emerald and baguette cuts create sleek Art-Deco lines. Marquise and pear shapes can be stunning but are more fragile at the points - we recommend protective bezel or half-bezel settings. Mix-shape eternity rings (alternating round and baguette) offer a distinctive classical look.
