UK ring size chart

British sizes run by letter. If you already know a ring that fits, measure across the inside of the band for the diameter, or wrap a strip of paper round the inside for the circumference, then read the letter from the table.

Measuring at home

  1. Wrap a strip of paper snugly round the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps and measure the length in millimetres. That length is the circumference.
  2. Measure late in the day. Fingers are at their smallest first thing in the morning and in the cold.
  3. The ring has to pass the knuckle. If the knuckle is much wider than the base of the finger, size to the knuckle and we will discuss the fit.
  4. Wide bands sit tighter than narrow ones. For anything over about 6mm across, go up half a size.

If you are not sure

You do not need to be. We confirm the size with you before your ring is made, and we can post a sizing gauge or convert from a US or European size if that is what you have. Ask us on the contact page or by WhatsApp.

Sizing after it is made

For a ring we have made, sizing down is complimentary. Sizing up is quoted by the metal added. Rings made elsewhere are chargeable either way, quoted before any work begins. Some settings, full eternity bands in particular, cannot be resized and have to be remade.

Common questions

How long does it take to create a bespoke engagement ring in Hatton Garden?

Our bespoke engagement rings typically take 3 to 4 weeks to make once your CAD design is approved, around 4 to 6 weeks end to end from your first consultation. We work from our Hatton Garden studio and keep you updated at every stage with design previews and progress photos.

What is the price of a bespoke engagement ring at Hatton Garden Bespoke Jewellery?

Bespoke engagement rings start from £2,000. Most clients commission in the £3,000 to £12,000 range, with larger pieces up to £20,000. GIA or IGI certification is available on centre stones. We accept card, bank transfer and cash.

Are your diamonds GIA certified?

GIA or IGI certification is available on centre-stone diamonds. Smaller accent stones (under 0.25ct) aren't typically certified. Every certificate can be verified online.

Can I visit your Hatton Garden studio without an appointment?

We work by appointment Monday to Friday, 10am to 5:30pm. Please book in advance so we can give you our full attention.

Do you offer ring resizing and jewellery repairs?

Yes. For a ring we have made, sizing down is complimentary and sizing up is quoted individually, depending on how much metal we need to add. For a ring made by another jeweller, resizing is a chargeable service, quoted once we have seen the piece. Repairs, re-polishing and re-plating are chargeable services too; bring your piece in or post it to us and we'll give you a quote.

What is the difference between lab grown and natural diamonds?

Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to natural diamonds. The only difference is their origin. Lab grown diamonds are typically 50 to 70% less expensive than natural diamonds of equivalent quality. We can source both and advise which suits your budget and preferences.

How to take your UK ring size.


To help you determine the ideal ring size, we've produced a downloadable ring sizer chart (real size); simply follow these instructions.

  • Print our ring sizer on A4 paper after downloading it.
  • Make incisions all around the sizer tool.
  • Put the implement around your finger.
  • Insert the end through the slot.
  • Pull it until your finger fits tightly around it.
  • Verify that it fits over your knuckle.
  • Determine your ring size by locating the letter that the arrow points to.
  • Recall that higher sizes are required for thicker band widths.

Advice on ring sizing
  • The most accurate approach to figure out your ring size is to come into our jewellery studio and have your finger measured. If, however, you want to use these helpful recommendations to establish your ring size from home, we are happy to assist you.

  • Keep in mind these helpful guidelines while determining ring size.

  • In cold weather, your fingers will shrink by half a size, so avoid measuring for a ring.
    Your finger will be at its biggest in the evening, making it the ideal time of day to measure it.

  • In order to verify that the size reading is accurate, measure your finger at least three times.

  • You might have to go up a size since rings with wider bands will fit a little bit tighter.
