Book a Valuation

Types of valuation we provide

Insurance replacement

The retail replacement value you need for an insurance schedule. Accepted by all major UK insurers including T H March, Hiscox, Jewellers' Block, and standard home policies.

Probate & inheritance

Fair-market-value assessment for HMRC probate purposes. Reflects what a willing buyer would pay in open market conditions on the valuation date.

Private sale

A realistic figure for private resale, taking recent auction comparables, desirability of the stone or design, and condition into account.

Post-loss & post-damage

Valuations to help with claims following theft, loss, or accidental damage. We can liaise directly with your insurer where helpful.

How the appointment works

  1. Book a slot by phone, WhatsApp, or the contact form. Most appointments can be accommodated within 48 hours.
  2. Bring your pieces to our studio at The Goldsmiths' Centre. A cup of tea while we work, or drop off and return later.
  3. On-site gemmological assessment, refractive index, specific gravity, fluorescence, magnification, and metal testing.
  4. Written certificate emailed the same day or next working day, with photographs and an itemised breakdown.

Fees

We charge a flat rate per piece, not a percentage of value. You won't be nudged toward inflated figures to raise our fee.

Single ring, earring, or pendant £65
Pair of earrings, necklace with pendant £85
Watch (mechanical or quartz) £120
Complete jewellery collection (5+ pieces) From £250

Valuations for pieces purchased from us within the last 12 months are complimentary.

Questions people ask

How often should I update my insurance valuation?

Most insurers require valuations to be renewed every 2 to 3 years, because precious metal and diamond prices move. We recommend every 2 years for pieces with a significant gold or platinum content.

Do I need to leave the piece with you?

Rarely. Most assessments are completed while you wait (30 to 60 minutes per piece). For unusual or large collections we may ask to keep items overnight and will provide a signed receipt.

Will my valuation be accepted by my insurer?

Yes. Our valuations are signed by a qualified gemmologist on our headed paper and are accepted by every UK jewellery insurer we've worked with. We're happy to check with your insurer in advance if you have any concern.

What if I bought the piece abroad?

No issue. We assess the piece on its merits, independent of purchase history. Bring any supporting documents if you have them; they're helpful but not required.

Can you provide a valuation remotely?

Not for insurance or probate purposes, a physical inspection is required. We can provide a preliminary estimate from good-quality photographs and existing certificates, which is useful for quick decision-making.
