The final price depends on the metal (platinum is roughly 30% more than 18ct white gold), the size and quality of the centre stone, and the complexity of the setting. We provide a transparent fixed-price quote at consultation before any work begins.

How long does a bespoke ring take to make?

Typical turnaround is three to four weeks from design sign-off to completed ring. The process runs: initial consultation, CAD render (1 week), design revisions and approval, casting and setting (2 to 3 weeks), final polish and London Assay Office hallmarking, quality-check and collection. Rush orders in as little as two weeks are possible for an additional fee.

Is bespoke actually cheaper than the high street?

For like-for-like quality, yes - often significantly. High-street jewellers carry overheads for multiple retail locations, wholesaler margins, and branded packaging that all get passed to you. Working direct with the Hatton Garden workshop that makes the ring removes most of those layers. Expect to pay around 30 to 50 percent less for a comparable piece.

How do I work out my ring size at home?

The most accurate method is to take a ring the wearer already wears on the correct finger and compare its inside diameter to our printable ring-size guide. Measure in millimetres across the inside, then match to the UK letter. Our guide also includes a string-method for people without an existing ring. If you are unsure, we always err on the slightly larger side - resizing down is easier than resizing up.

Lab-grown or natural diamonds - which should I choose?

Lab-grown and natural diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical. The only difference is origin: lab-grown are created in a laboratory over weeks; natural diamonds formed deep underground over billions of years. Lab-grown diamonds cost roughly 50 to 70 percent less for equivalent quality, making them excellent value. Natural diamonds hold heritage and long-term rarity value. We stock both.

What shape of diamond should I choose?

Round brilliant is the most popular (roughly 75 percent of engagement rings) for its unmatched sparkle. Oval, pear, and marquise flatter the finger by visually lengthening it and tend to look larger for the same carat weight. Emerald and Asscher cuts prize clarity over sparkle, giving a clean Art-Deco feel. Cushion suits vintage-inspired settings; princess is a crisp modern choice.

Platinum, white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold - which metal?

Platinum is the most premium - denser, more durable, and naturally white without needing plating. 18ct white gold looks identical when freshly rhodium-plated but requires re-plating every 18 months to 2 years. 18ct yellow gold is the traditional choice, warm and classic. 18ct rose gold is copper-alloyed for its pink hue. Platinum is typically 30 percent more than white gold for the same design.

Are your rings hallmarked?

Yes. Every ring we make is fully hallmarked at the London Assay Office (one of four in the UK), confirming the metal fineness - 950 platinum, 750 gold (18ct), and so on. The hallmark is struck into the inside of the band and includes our sponsor mark, the metal standard, the Assay Office mark, and the date letter.

Do your centre stones come with certificates?

Almost always. Centre diamonds above 0.30ct are supplied with independent grading certificates from either the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or the IGI (International Gemological Institute) - the two most respected labs in the world. Smaller accent stones under 0.25ct are not typically certified individually. You receive the original certificate with your ring and can verify it online at the lab's website.

Can I use a diamond or stone I already own?

Absolutely - heirloom redesigns are one of our favourite kinds of commission. Bring in (or post insured to us) a family diamond, an engagement ring you want to reset, or a parcel of loose stones, and we will design around what you already have. We also buy stones outright if you want to part-exchange.

Do I need to visit the studio in person?

No. Many commissions go from first contact to collection without the client ever visiting in person. We run consultations by WhatsApp or video call, ship insured internationally, and handle international VAT and export paperwork for you. If you can visit, our studio is at The Goldsmiths' Centre, 42 Britton Street, London EC1M 5AD - a short walk from Farringdon.

Can I visit without an appointment?

We work strictly by appointment Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm. This is so that a designer can give you their full attention - bring out stones, discuss ideas, and sketch together - rather than juggle walk-ins. Appointments are free and without obligation; most last 45 minutes to an hour.

Do you offer ring resizing?

Yes. We offer invisible laser-sizing for gold and platinum rings we made - complimentary within the first year of purchase, then priced from £45 thereafter. For rings from other jewellers we charge from £65 depending on metal type and how much the ring needs to grow or shrink. Stone-set shanks and eternity rings are priced individually after assessment.

Do you offer repairs on jewellery you did not make?

Yes - most common repairs (re-tipping claws, replacing lost stones, re-soldering bands, re-threading pearls) we can take on regardless of where the piece was made. Bring it to a consultation or post it insured and we will quote after inspection.

What warranty do you offer?

Every ring we make carries a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship. We also offer complimentary annual inspection and cleaning for life - bring the ring in any time to have claws checked, stones tightened, and the whole piece restored to its original finish.

Should I insure the ring, and how?

Yes - most home-contents policies cap valuables at £1,500 to £2,500 per item, so a bespoke ring usually needs a specified-item endorsement or a dedicated jewellery policy. We recommend T. H.
